why NOT to buy a plug-in electric hybrid or elec car

Why NOT to buy a Chevy "Volt" or any other plug-in hybrid electric car.

1. Brownouts/blackouts

The car's batteries are charged CONTINUOUSLY, with a high wattage charger for 6 to 8 hours. Increasing use of plug-in cars, scooters, bicycles will certainly cause overloads to the power grid, especially in areas where a utility is experiencing peak demands for hot water heaters, lighting and air conditioners. (unlike charging car battery packs, air conditioners usually cycle "off" for longer periods of time than "on"-depending on room insulation)

One charge of electric car battery uses an avdg. of 8 KWH of electricity, which is about one-half the total electric use of the average home, per day. Alternative, clean power sources are sporadic. The sun doesn't shine at night. The wind is not always blowing. Alternative power equipment and storage is a huge investment for the power companies and the result can only be  huge utility rate hikes for consumers.

Not only that- it will take time for clean energy sources to integrate the system, in any sizeable amount. Clean energy on the grid is certain to lag far behind sales and energy demands of these vehicles!

In addition to clean energy source costs, brownouts/blackouts mean utility upgrades (more or bigger fossil fuel run generators, transformers, power lines). Again, that means RATE INCREASES for you.

3. Pollution.

Worldwide power plant pollution increase due to transportation demands. These cars are being sold all over the world. What is coming out of the smokestacks of power plants in China, India, Mexico,.....!!! Whatever it is, it will reach your lungs!

DOWN THE ROAD:

Rate increases, health and environmental concerns will make the purchase of HOME solar (photovoltaic) and wind power the only options left to car owners.

You can be sure that the plug-in car companies are looking forward to big revenues from retrofitting their cars with REMOVABLE BATTERY PACKS, selling extra battery packs and their own home solar and wind charging systems. The extra packs can be charged at home while out driving the car. When returning home, the packs are switched between car and charging system. (with a wheeled "dolly" if necessary)

 What YOU can do today:

DEMAND that electric car companies make a solar charging option available on their vehicles. This goes also for electric scooters and bicycles. They must also market solar panels and wind generators to fit their cars.

This is not rocket science. Consumers should not have to suffer retrofit costs, dirty air and blackouts. There is no reason to wait for the power companies to respond when clean charging systems are available to the public-TODAY. The transition to SOLAR must start NOW.

Sawgunner's Phoney Phacts

 misterfact says:

Why Iraqi civilians don't fight terrorists

why 40,000,000 Iraqi civilians don't fight the 20,000 terrorists!

They have been dis-armed by American troops who fight their battles FOR THEM!

YOUR idiot commander-in-chief and his Generals order their troops to confiscate SMALL CALIBRE HANDGUNS from innocent, non violent Iraqi citizens.

The small calibre handgun is the most effective defensive weapon in the home and on the street (at close range)- especially in a war zone. These guns are hardly a threat to soldiers in flak jackets and helmets!

After dis-arming innocent civilians- the military sheds crocodile tears when those civilians end up in mass graves with their throats slit because they couldn't effectively defend themselves!.

Dis-arming the innocent of an effective means of self-defense is a dastardly deed and the US military should be ashamed of themselves!

You Americans, your government and your military are DEPICABLE!

Misterfact - a misnomer
Disarmed Iraqi cilivians eh? The "fact" is that Iraqi civilians are allowed to own multiple AK-47 fully automatic assault rifles to use for their self-defense.

misterfact replies:
AK-47s;Big deal! A handgun is a lot better defensive weapon at small range. Innocent Iraqis can't even carry them on the street for self protection when they have to go to the store!

The weapons are not supposed to be toted outside of the residence, (misterfact: Isn't that just sweet of the US military- damn George Bush won't even let an innocent Iraqi protect himself while going to the store!)though indiscreet useage by neighborhood militias that patrol their own streets is tolerated. Handguns on the other hand, are easy to conceal, and have been used to kill many soldiers in crowded street conditions. Thus, your argument against Americans et al was based on a fallacy.

misterfact: I think you are a liar! Name me ONE American troop killed by a small calibre handgun! The weapons of choice by terrorists are i.e.d.s and rifles! Maybe ONE US troop has been killed or wounded with a lucky shot that missed the flak jacket and helmet. Never saw anything on the news that said small calibre handguns are a threat to US forces. Nice try!

Sawgunner: Perhaps your true complaint with America is its total economic and social dominance over whatever lickspittle country it is that you happen to infest.

misterfact: If any American troop came to my littlespittle country and tried to take my handgun from me- I'de shoot the son-of-a-bittch! I think Iraqis have the right to do the same. Dis-arming innocent people with their best means of defense is DESPICABLE!

Sawgunner:A final word for "Misterfact"; it is best to keep your mouth closed and make others wonder if you are a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

misterfact: Fools have to make up their own facts. You don't know crap about what our "wonderful" troops are doing over there! Find me an Iraq vet who went around knocking ON doors and knocking DOWN doors of innocent Iraqis in order to confiscate their handguns- and have HIM explain his actions to us!

If US troops dis-arm the innocent over there- how long before they come to YOUR FRONT DOOR and do the same?!
